retreat kitchen (3).jpg

"The Retreat" has an eclectic history. It began life as a vehicle shed for a working dairy before being converted into a smithy with forge. When you stand at the bathroom vanity, imagine Mary the Blacksmith standing on the same spot creating fairy horseshoes and cracking bawdy jokes to the delight of the busloads of tourists who came to see her demonstrations. It was transformed into an art gallery before being remodelled into a bedroom with basic amenities. Rob and Stef spent a year extensively renovating, adding a bathroom and modernising the kitchen. Stef and Rob have sourced antique furnishings and rugs which partially cover the original floor. an open space furnished with antiquities within thick stone walls to preserve your peace and lead light windows to please your eyes.

Restored with all the charm of the good old time and the modern features.

"The Old Workshop" This building was built in the 60s as a woodshed then used as a workshop we in our turn adapt it as a basic double bedroom with insulation, electricity rewired and French door to access the decking which offers the perfect spot for a morning coffee or to sip a glass of wine and chillout on the deck. It’s a short stroll to the toilet and shower room which is insulated and has a heater and you can enjoy the artwork while you sit. Check out the Gallery for images. The water is hot, there’s a lot of it and you even get a fluffy dressing gown. If you would like to go back to yesteryear, there is a traditional washstand in the corner for those moments you’d like to wash your hands. Check out our YouTube channel for a video of the walk between The Old Workshop and the amenities.

A kitchen is available across the courtyard, on request when booking.
